Lake Mead, Nevada

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area is big covering over a million and a half acres of land. Temperatures vary widely and can reach over 120 degrees in the desert during the summer to well below freezing in the winter.
Lake Mead runs along the Arizona and Nevada borderand fronts the entrance to the Grand Canyon. It covers the area that formerly was 140 miles of the Colorado River before Hoover Dam was built.
The lake is 110 miles long and reaches a depth of around 500 feet depth. It contains an immense 28 million acre-feet of water.
The best way to experience Lake Mead is by boat, however there are a variety of great attractions located around the lake for the non-boater. Visitors can find campgrounds, marinas, lodges, and other facilities around the shore of the lake. Millions of people return yearly to experience the beautiful natural surroundings and return year after year. There are an good amount of shaded picnic areas with tables, water, fire grills, and restrooms.
You can find some of the very best sport fishing in all of Nevada at Lake Mead. The favorite activities on the lake include boating, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking. There are also great bike trails around Lake Mead
