The Las Vegas Natural History Museum is a family friendly destination dedicated to educating children and families in the natural sciences of today and the past. Children love the massive 35-foot long Tyrannosaurus rex that lowers its head and roars at them! Other popular attractions include a Triceratops, ankylosaur, and a ferocious raptor. You can also find a gigantic marine reptile that swam in the waters of Nevada called an Ichthyosaur. Marine Life Gallery Painted in ocean blue colors, the visitors to the Marine Life Gallery can get a feel for what life is like underwater. Visitors can experience live sharks, stingrays, and eels that occupy the 3,000-gallon tank in this gallery. There are also numerous other colorful and amazing creatures occupying additional jewel tanks. Situated throughout the gallery are life-size recreations of various species of sharks and fish. Africa Gallery Visitors to the African Gallery can experience life on the Serengeti. The African Savanna display overlooks a peaceful watering hole on one side and a predator- prey relationship on the other. The Africican Rainforest display showcases some of the beautiful and diverse wildlife found in the African jungle. Pushing buttons located throughout the exhibits enable visitors to see and learn about the animals hidden amongst the trees and brush. The "Out of Africa" exhibit shows off three long extinct African primates: Australopithecus afarensis, Homo habilis, and Homo erectus. The "Out of Africa" exhibit is the only one of its kind in the state of Nevada, offering a rare look into the history of primates. Wildlife Gallery The International Wildlife Room features world-class taxidermy specimens from North America, South America, the Middle East, and Africa. Explore family groups like bears, sheep, deer, dog, cats, and antelope. The Wild Nevada Gallery features a large amount of animals indigenous to the Nevada area. It is themed after the beauty of the Mojave Desert. Visitors can find many different animals and plants including foxes, snakes, badgers, big horn sheep, burrowing creatures and many more. There's a lot of chances for children to learn interactively by investigating exhibits with their ears, hands, and noses. Hand-On Gallery The MGM/Mirage Young Scientist Center gives children the chance to have a lot of fun in a hands-on interactive room.
